Toto Wolff remaining realistic as Mercedes try to reel in Ferrari and Red Bull

Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff has said that the Silver Arrows are still working hard to try and close the gap to Ferrari and Red Bull but they know that it is still going to take time to achieve exactly that.

One of the main subplots of the season so far has been Mercedes’ struggles with porpoising, and that has meant that they are off of the pace when it comes to trying to challenge for race victories.

Indeed, Ferrari and Red Bull have looked the strongest so far, though the latter has obviously struggled for reliability so far this season.

Ferrari, then, are the team to beat but Wolff has both garages in his sights as Mercedes continue to work hard to try and close the gap.

He is, though, realistic over the challenge and says that it will take time to try and get things to where they want them to be with the W13:

“We know we haven’t got the pace of the Ferrari and Red Bull right now,” explained Wolff.

“But we’re working hard to reduce their advantage, and it’s been brilliant to see everyone across the factories pulling together to achieve this.

“There’s been a lot of hard work over the Easter weekend in the factory to bring improvements to the car and get it ready to head to the next race, and that shows the team’s dedication to turning the situation around.

“Of course, we must be realistic, it will take time to make the gains we want, but we’re learning as much as we can from each race and finding avenues to push us forward.”

Imola is up next this weekend and they’ll be keen to try and make headway, though Ferrari will naturally be eager to maintain their good form and win in front of an expectant Tifosi.
