Paul Scholes' damning Instagram about Man Utd after 4-0 Liverpool loss

Manchester United are in a sorry state right now.

Tuesday evening was yet another low point for the club as they were beaten 4-0 by Liverpool at Anfield.

United have now slipped to sixth in the Premier League table and it’s hard to envisage a world in which Ralf Rangnick’s side qualify for next season’s Champions League.

Failure to secure a place in Europe’s top-tier competition will be a huge financial setback for the Red Devils and may also impact their pursuit of new players in the summer transfer window.

However, United legend Paul Scholes has declared that he wants his boyhood club to finish eighth in the Premier League.

That would see the team miss out on qualification for both the Europa League and Europa Conference League as well.

In a post on his Instagram story, Scholes stated he wants United to drop down to eighth by season’s end in order to help soon-to-be manager Erik ten Hag’s start at the club.

To be fair to Scholes, it’s not the worst shout at all. In 2015/16, Chelsea finished 10th in the Premier League and the following season, they went and won the Premier League title under Antonio Conte.

Of course, we’re not saying United stand a chance of winning the league in 2022/23, but no European football could help speed up the enormous rebuild that’s required.

After the 4-0 hammering at the hands of Liverpool, Scholes didn’t hold back one bit when giving his thoughts on United’s “disgusting” performance.

“I have probably lost a little bit of anger towards them,” Scholes told Premier League Productions.

“I feel saddened watching it really. It’s not great to watch. They lack belief. They lack a way of playing. But I think I prefer to talk about Liverpool tonight.
