Tonbridge Angels manager Alan Dunne leads his side into FA Trophy action against Worthing having won the competition during his time at Bromley
Tonbridge face Worthing in the FA Trophy this weekend - a competition that holds special memories for boss Alan Dunne.
Dunne was Bromley assistant manager when the Ravens upset Wrexham 1-0 in the 2022 final at Wembley in front of more than 46,000 fans.
It was his second final with Bromley, having been first-team coach when they lost on penalties to Brackley four years earlier.
Tonbridge have home advantage in Saturday’s second-round tie at Longmead.
It will be a challenge, with Worthing third in National League South after six straight victories, but Dunne is hoping to make some more Trophy memories.
He said: “It’s a game I want to win, it’s a trophy I’ve won myself at Bromley.
“It won’t be an easy game but I feel like it’s an opportunity to advance in a cup competition.
“We want to win every game and we want to do as well as we can in it.
“They’re flying at the moment, so I’m expecting a tough game, they’ll look to use the ball and we’ll have to stay concentrated and be up for it on the day to give ourselves every opportunity.”
Reflecting on his Wembley finals, Dunne added: “I had one loss when I was first-team coach under Neil Smith against Brackley, and then I had the win.
“It was fantastic, a brilliant day, beating Wrexham against all odds in front of a huge crowd.
“It’s a great trophy and when you get to the final and win it, it’s fantastic for the club.
“But we just want to get as far as we can in it, put on a good show and see where it takes us.”
Tonbridge go into the game on the back of a 1-1 National League South draw at Bath on Tuesday night.
Bunmi Babajide gave the visitors a first-half lead at Twerton Park but the hosts levelled before the break.
Among three changes from Angels’ 1-0 defeat by Hornchurch last
