Player-boss Ben Greenhalgh has explained how Margate will approach a maiden trip to Jersey Bulls - and how it differs to what other sides might have done.
In-form Gate, on a nine-match unbeaten run, will make their first trip to the island as they aim to end Elliot Powell’s mid-table troops’ unbeaten home Isthmian South East record.
Teams have tended to try to make the long journey, and get back, on the same day. But Margate have other ideas, ahead of this Saturday’s match (kick-off 2pm).
“I think we’re doing it a little bit differently to others,” Greenhalgh admitted.
“Jersey have got a fantastic home record. They’re unbeaten at home.
“We’re going to train over there on Friday, we’ll go out there that day. It looks like we will probably fly back on Sunday.
"Really, it’s a fixture for the fans.
“I know Deal Town took really good support with them a few weeks ago.
"We will do that, as well, and it’s down to us to make it worth the trip - although I’m sure they will enjoy the weekend, no matter what happens.
"We’re nine unbeaten and we have won four in a row.
“We have got to work out a way of making it five wins in a row.”
Gate’s latest victory came as they consigned hapless basement boys East Grinstead to a 13th straight loss, beating them 5-1 at Hartsdown Park in front of an attendance of 352 last weekend.
Playmaker Greenhalgh revealed: “In the run-up to it, I would say it’s one of the most nerve-wracking games we have had.
“It was one we had to win and, even if we won, people wouldn’t put it down as a great win. In 18 out of 19 [league] games this season, they have been beaten. It’s not been going very well for them.
