Tonbridge Angels 5 Cray Valley 0 match report: Two-goal Eddie Simon among scorers in FA Cup replay as new manager Alan Dunne enjoys first win

New boss Alan Dunne claimed his first win as Tonbridge thumped Cray Valley in an FA Cup replay on Tuesday night.

Angels beat the Isthmian Premier Millers 5-0 thanks to an Eddie Simon double, Jordan Higgs, Brody Peart and an own goal.

Victory sets up a fourth qualifying round tie at home to another Isthmian Premier side, Chatham Town, on October 11 and a chance to reach the first round proper for the second year running.

It was an unhappy return to Longmead for Millers boss Steve McKimm at a ground where he enjoyed so much success in the home dugout over an eight-year spell.

The sides were meeting again after a goalless draw at the Millers’ Arctic Stadium on Saturday.

There was an early blow for the Angels when skipper Arthur Penney went off with what appeared to be a shoulder injury after only seven minutes.

But his replacement, Peart, was to have a key say as Angels took the lead just four minutes later.

Bunmi Babajide got Tonbridge up the pitch before Marcus Sablier, Bradley Williams and Higgs combined to feed Peart, whose dangerous ball across the six-yard box was turned into his own net by Millers defender Ali Tumkaya.

Tonbridge were moving the ball well with quick, incisive passing, and a second goal followed in the 26th minute.

Higgs, who took the armband following Penney’s injury, was the scorer with a deflected strike from 20 yards after Bailey Akehurst’s corner was partially cleared.

Number three followed five minutes later as the impressive Sablier got in the box and squared for Simon to finish, the ball having evaded a Millers defender on its way through to the Angels striker.

Akehurst hit the side-netting shortly after and Peart threatened from a 30-yard drive as Tonbridge pushed for more.
