Sittingbourne manager Ryan Maxwell says the FA should compensate players faced with midweek trips to the Channel Islands for loss of earnings
Sittingbourne manager Ryan Maxwell believes the FA should compensate teams who have to travel to the Channel Islands for midweek games.
The Brickies visit Jersey Bulls in Isthmian South East tonight (7.45pm), with the management and players taking time off work to make the journey.
They’re due to board an 11.10am flight and won’t be home until the early hours, effectively writing off Wednesday, too.
Flights are covered by the home club but Maxwell feels the FA should step in to cover loss of earnings.
“I cannot believe there isn’t some kind of compensation,” he said.
“We’re having to take two days off work, so it’s OK paying for our flights but who’s paying our wages?
“For some boys, if they’re on £150 a day, they’re losing £300.
“They’ve got bills to pay, families to feed.
“I don’t understand how this has been allowed with no talk about a compensation package, even £100 per player.
“Surely something has to be put in there.
“What if we all just said we can’t do it?
“We either put our foot down and demand some money from the FA or Jersey don’t get to play home games in midweek.
“It can’t be right that we’re losing money to play a game of football. More needs to be done on that.”
