Ian Durrant spies 2 Rangers stars who'll define title race as Kenny Dalglish clues in Celtic on what MUST change

Ian Durrant believes Todd Cantwell and Tom Lawrence could be key in Rangers returning to the top of Scottish football at the end of the season - as Celtic legend Kenny Dalglish admitted he can see the pressure weighing heavily on the shoulders of his old club.

Philippe Clement’s Light Blues could go to the top of the Premiership for the first time in two years if they can beat Ross County by a three-goal margin in their game in hand over Celtic at Ibrox on Wednesday. Rangers icon Durrant was part of the legendary nine-in-row side and also helped the club win the three-in-a-row tiles when Walter Smith recruited him as part of his coaching team.

The former midfielder likes what he’s seeing right now - particularly from two players. He told the Sunday Post: “I feel we are creating plenty of chances in the final third of the pitch. Todd Cantwell and Tom Lawrence are both key players in that area. They like to penetrate in the final third and create chances. They also like to shoot from outside the box and I like to see that. I don’t think there is enough of it in the modern game.

“Tom shot the other night against Aberdeen and the keeper parried it out to Todd. He made no mistake from eight yards for a really good finish. I just hope Tom can get a run in the team and he stays away from the treatment table. He has been really unlucky with injuries and, as I well know from personal experience, it can get you down and demoralise you.

“It’s never pleasant and it takes extraordinary strength of mind to get through it and come out the other side. Tom appears to have that mentality and I’ve a feeling he can play a really important role in the next three months. He is a match winner. He is an intelligent football and he is skilful.
