The Clement zinger that had Cantwell chuckling as Rangers boss reduces brutal Aris hook to hilarious one liner

Philippe Clement is delighted with Todd Cantwell's 'evolution' at Rangers - and says THAT brutal hook against Aris is the stuff of jokes these days.

Cantwell has been a key player in the early part of Clement's tenure and scored the crucial third goal against Kilmarnock on Tuesday. He was subbed off to a standing ovation with three minutes to play and the points in the bag, and it was a far cry from the days of Limassol at home where he was hooked within 35 minutes.

Clement showed no mercy in one of the low points of his career so far, replacing Cantwell with Ross McCausland as his team stumbled to a 1-1 Europa League draw with the Cypriot minnows. But it appears to have lit a fire under Cantwell who has since scored twice in the league and shown some of his best form.

Clement was seen embracing his playmaker when he withdrew him in the late stages against Killie and he reveals he referenced that moment against Aris...but Cantwell saw the funny side. He said after the game: "It's difficult to take out one player, it's a total story and every player has his own working points. And that's my job and the staff to point them out and work on that with them.

"I am happy with the evolution Todd is making and I prefer to take him off in the 87th minute rather than the 37th minute. I told him also when he came off...he found it funny!"
