Three pundits all predict same outcome in Manchester United vs Wigan FA Cup third round tie

Manchester United will be targeting a winning start to 2024 when they face Wigan Athletic in the third round of the FA Cup at the DW Stadium on Monday night.

United, who last faced the Latics in 2017, also in the FA Cup, will be looking to get back on track after last Saturday's 2-1 defeat to Nottingham Forest. The loss at the City Ground marked a fifth defeat in their last eight matches in all competitions.

The Reds were second best at the City Ground, meaning they will be determined to produce a much-improved showing in their first outing of the new year. They will be desperate to avoid the embarrassment of a cup upset, with the Latics currently 18th in the League One table.

But how do the pundits think United's tussle with Shaun Maloney's side will go? MEN Sport has taken a look.

"I don't see one [a shock] when Wigan playManchester United on Monday, either," Sutton told BBC Sport. "The Latics boss is my old Celtic teammate, Shaun Maloney, who scored a brilliant winner when Wigan beat United in 2012.

"So, it's written in the stars that Wigan win this one as well - but I am going with United on the basis that Erik ten Hag simply cannot lose this game for the sake of his Old Trafford future. It won't be a comfortable night for them, though. I can see Wigan taking the lead before United fight back and allow Erik to hang on to his job by his fingernails."
