Gary Neville makes Sir Jim Ratcliffe point after INEOS chief attends Manchester United match

Gary Neville reckons Manchester United supporters can be optimistic now Sir Jim Ratcliffe is on board as the club prepare to make long-awaited changes behind the scenes. Investment from the INEOS founder was formalised on Christmas Eve and will go through - subject to Premier League ratification - shortly.

Ratcliffe, 71, attended his first game at Old Trafford since that deal was rubber-stamped on Sunday afternoon. The match against Tottenham ended 2-2 with Rasmus Hojlund and Marcus Rashford on target.

It was a high-octane 90 minutes between two challengers for the top-four places as Tottenham snatched a draw with two equalisers from Richarlison and Rodrigo Bentancur. Ratcliffe - who addressed journalists before the game - took in the action alongside Sir Alex Ferguson from the stands.

Ratcliffe's right-hand man at INEOS when it comes to sporting ventures - Sir Dave Brailsford - has kept an eye on matters at Old Trafford and beyond in recent matches. However, this was the first time Ratcliffe was able to show his face since the £1.25billion minority takeover was announced on Christmas Eve.

He watched a 2-2 draw that kept United seventh spot in the Premier League standings before their winter break. Ratcliffe's attendance was even enough to spark encouragement from Neville on commentary duty.

Neville has been a regular and vocal critic of the much-maligned Glazer family, but the former United captain says there could be better times ahead for long-suffering fans in the barren post-Ferguson years. Neville, though, wants to see change in how the club operates moving forward.
