Three Hull FC players with points to prove over the remainder of the season

Brett Hodgson will be relatively happy with what he’s seen from his players so far this year. The Black and Whites currently sit fifth in the Super League table and they look more than capable of claiming a play-off spot at this moment in the time.

There’s been standout performers this year, with the likes of Jake Connor, Ligi Sao and Manu Ma’u catching the eye. Others, though, will be determined to step up and impress over the second half of the year.

The scrum-half has struggled to find any sort of traction in a black and white shirt so far after spending a large period of the campaign sidelined through suspension. Gale was named captain in pre-season, but after being red carded in just his second game for the club, he was hit with a five-game ban.

He then received a two-match penalty notice for tripping against Warrington Wolves and he was forced to wait to make his return to the side after being left out of the club’s trip to St Helens earlier this month. He made a point when he returned to action last time out against Wigan Warriors, but over the coming weeks and months he’ll be determined to build up some form and momentum.

Gale is also playing for his future with the one-year deal he signed at the MKM Stadium over the off-season due to expire at the end of the campaign.

After struggling for form at the start of the year, Shaul has looked at home on the wing when he has played in recent weeks. The 29-year-old moved away from his favoured full-back role in pre-season to give himself more of a chance of featuring for the Black and Whites and he has made eight league appearances this year.
