The positives of Hull FC’s season so far and why they need to stay on track
Hull FC have had two really poor results in June. Losing to Wakefield in Golden Point was bitterly disappointing, and the way they succumbed to defeat against Catalans was equally so.
Yet for the time being at least, Hull still sit in fifth position in Super League. Despite current half back woes, there are positives about them this year, both in their playing personnel and the direction the club wish to take. Here Hull Live looks at some of those positives.
Brett Hodgson’s direction
It was always going to be a massive job for Brett Hodgson to turn around the fortunes at Hull FC. The Australian head coach has had plenty of issues to deal with, from attitude, discipline, and culture alarm bells, to the wheeling and dealing of the first team squad, to Covid and disruption through injury and illness.
On that front, Hodgson has inherited some outstanding players but he has also been stuck with some that don't fit the bill. Now in a salary cap sport that's a process to say the least. It's not a quick turn-a-round and Hodgson, like Lee Radford before him, deserves some time to get it right.

Ever since coming into the job, Hodgson has spoken of speed, versatility, and the ability to adapt to different situations. He's on track. Hull are much tougher than in recent years and the embarrassing defeats of the past are now exactly that. It's a small consolation, but the Hull of two or so years ago would have leaked 50 plus points in Perpignan last weekend. Under Hodgson, Hull don't do that. There's resilience in them at least, and there's also fight - something they're going to need now more than ever to get their season back on track.
