Three former transfer targets might be helping Erik ten Hag's next signing at Manchester United

Erik ten Hag remains keen to add more goals to his Manchester United squad in January and if a move to Serhou Guirassy does materialise, the Dutchman could get his wish at a bargain price.

Multiple reports have named United as one of several sides interested in Guirassy, who is in the midst of an outstanding run of form with German outfit Stuttgart. The 27-year-old has 16 goals in 11 Bundesliga appearances, second only in the league to Ten Hag's prime summer target Harry Kane.

Upfront is one of four key areas that Ten Hag is keen to strengthen over the next two windows and the Dutchman is thought to want a more experienced No.9 to help Rasmus Hojlund's development. The 20-year-old has shown plenty of promise since singing from Atalanta for £72million, but the finished product he is not.

If goals are what Ten Hag wants, then Guirassy's record suggests he would be the answer to United's problem, and the Guinean international has been learning from three of the best in his position.

“I’m always trying to be in the right place at the right time,” Guirassy told the Guardian recently. “Last season I managed to score some easy goals because I was able to work out where the ball would go. It’s something instinctive.

"When I was younger, I liked to run everywhere on the pitch but I’ve learned about myself. I watch a lot of football on TV and I like to watch players like Lewandowski, Kane or Haaland and analyse what they are doing.

"You learn from the best and scoring goals is an art. I like to play with the ball but the most important thing is to be ready in the box.”
