Michael Owen slammed for Harry Kane comment after failed Manchester United transfer pursuit

Paul Ince has slammed Michael Owen for "talking rubbish" about Harry Kane as the England captain continues to shine at Bayern Munich after Manchester United failed in their fleeting attempt to sign him.

Having allowed Cristiano Ronaldo to leave Old Trafford last winter, United initially bided their time before setting their sights on Kane in the summer. However, that proposed move did not get off the ground and Bayern signed him from Tottenham with United recruiting Rasmus Hojlund instead.

Kane, 30, has scored a staggering 25 goals in 22 games for the German heavyweights this season. Speaking about him recently, Owen said it would be no achievement if Kane got his hands on the Bundesliga title, but Ince has hit back at his fellow ex-United and England man in an interview with DAZN Bet.

Owen, 44, said: "Bayern are undoubtedly one of the biggest clubs in the world but, for me, to win a trophy, I don't think there's anything special about going and guaranteeing yourself a Bundesliga. Bayern will win the league with or without Kane, so I don't think that was a reason to leave."

In reply to that verdict, Ince said: "I think Michael Owen's comments on the Bundesliga are very unfair. A title is a title. Bayern aren't even top of the Bundesliga.

"There's also the threat from Borussia Dortmund, RB Leipzig and Stuttgart. It's not as easy as people think. Bayern barely won [the title] last year."
