Threave Rovers round of West of Scotland League campaign with victory at Harmony Row

Threave Rovers rounded off their league fixtures with victory at Harmony Row on Saturday.

Goals from Connor Potts and Dylan Cairnie gave them a 2-1 win as their first season in the West of Scotland League came to a close.

The win moved them to within two points of Kilsyth Rangers and six behind fourth division champions West Park United.

Boss Vinnie Parker said: “I thought when we played Harmony Row last time they were pretty difficult and Saturday was no different.

“The pitch was really fiery and unpredictable and they were tough opponents. They were pretty aggressive with their press. It wasn’t very pleasing on the eye if you were standing watching.

“There were only a few flashes of quality moments and we managed to score goals from two of them.

“We ground out a result, we were desperate to get three points, finish the season as strongly as possible and close the gap to the teams above us.

“We spoke before the game that we had the second best goal difference in the West. The idea was to score a few goals but they didn’t sit down and allow that.”

Although Threave’s league games are over, they still have the chance to claim some silverware.

Tuesday night will see them go to Utility Hut South of Scotland League leaders Creetown in the Cree Lodge Cup semi-final.

And some players may have put themselves into contention after their displays on Saturday.

Parker said: “It’s a tough decision as everyone is playing and training so well. I thought Tam Coles was excellent when he came into the team on Saturday and Tommy Smith was exceptional as well.

“When you get to this time of the season it’s the walking wounded. Everyone has some sort of niggle or injury. Lewis Sloan missed Saturday with an ankle
