Threave Rovers gaffer hopes side learns from letting two goal lead slip
Danny Dunglinson is hoping his Threave Rovers players learn from letting two points slip through their fingers.
Threave were 2-0 up at half-time against Thorn Athletic on Saturday, only for their opponents to fight back and grab a point in the final few minutes of the game.
Dunglinson – taking charge of the team in a competitive game for the first time – said: “It’s a young team and we’re maybe a wee bit naive thinking we had to hunt the third goal when we could have sat in, let them have the ball and take what we’d got.
“They’ll learn from it. It’s maybe going to be a positive and in three or four weeks time if we’re in that situation we’ll know what we’ve got to do to see games out.
“The first half we were really, really good. We were 2-0 up and the goalie had a good save at the end of the first half, then we hit the post at the start of the second half which would have killed the game off.
“They came back into the game, changed their shape a wee bit and probably deserved a point in the end.
“It’s the same at any level – 2-0 can be a dangerous scoreline and the next goal is key. 3-0 up it’s game over or 2-1 their tails are up.”
Threave took a 2-0 lead thanks to goals from Ross Irving and Lewis Downie. Darren Jones got one back midway through the second half for the visitors and in stoppage time they snatched a point thanks to Greg Stewart’s screamer.
On Saturday, Threave are at home again when they face Irvine Victoria, before they go to Girvan the following week.
Dunglinson added: “Irvine play Girvan on Wednesday so it gives us a chance to watch both teams.
“We didn’t beat Irvine Victoria last season so we owe them one. If we win on Saturday, four points from the first six would be seen as a
