Threave Rovers come from behind to defeat Girvan as unbeaten run continues

Threave Rovers came from behind and continued their high scoring form as they won at Girvan on Saturday.

Despite the hosts scoring first, it was the Castle Douglas side who emerged on top with a 5-1 victory.

And boss Danny Dunglinson claimed: “Them scoring did us a favour because we started alright but after that we were on top until the finish.

“We took our chances and 5-1 didn’t flatter us. We had a lot of chances, their goalie had a couple of good saves, he made a mistake for the fourth goal but he did have some really good saves and we hit the post.

“It shows the shift in mentality from half time in the Thorn game when we were two up and thought the game was over.

“They’ve realised there’s not going to be easy games but with the quality we’ve got, if they apply themselves, the quality they’ve got should get them through most games.

“We said from the start if we matched their work rate for the first 10/15 minutes, the quality would shine through and it certainly did on Saturday.

“We’ve scored 14 goals and only two haven’t been from strikers. If you’ve got a goalscorer you’ve always got a chance in games, so to have three is a bonus.”

Another plus on Saturday was the display of Charlie Watson.

The teenager started treatment for stage four cancer on Tuesday but took to the pitch just days later to give an outstanding performance.

It was Girvan who took the lead through Ryan Kennedy before Ross Irving eventually drew Threave level.

The forward was fouled by the Girvan keeper who then saved the resultant penalty only for Irving to net the rebound. Aiden Kerr put Threave in front and the visitors added a third before the interval thanks to Curtiss Wilson.
