Threave Rovers boss leaves Meadow Park club just days after Scottish Cup triumph

Threave Rovers boss Vinnie Parker has left the club.

The shock departure was announced on Monday night — little more than 48 hours after Threave had progressed to the first round of the Scottish Cup. Assistant Kevin Somerville has also left.

A club statement posted to the club’s Facebook page on Monday read: “After a committee meeting this evening, we regret to announce that Vinnie Parker has left his role as manager along with his assistant, Kevin Somerville.

“The club would like to thank both for their time in charge at Meadow Park, culminating in promotion from the fourth division last season. Threave Rovers are now accepting expressions of interest for the role of first team manager. Please email your application and CV to mailthreaveroversfc@btconnect.com.”

Former Threave goalie Parker took charge at Meadow Park in the summer of 2020 when the club was playing in the South of Scotland League.

Last year, they made the switch to the West of Scotland League, with Threave winning promotion from the fourth division.

His final match in charge came on Saturday when they faced Easthouses Lily in the preliminary round of the Scottish Cup.

Connor Potts opened the scoring for Threave inside two minutes, Dylan Cairnie then doubling the lead.

And when Lewis Sloan scored the third after little more than half an hour, Threave were in dreamland.

Shaun Hill got one back just before the break to give the hosts hope but that was as close as they would get.

Sunday’s draw handed the Castle Douglas side – and their new boss – a 500-mile trip to Highland League side Formartine United in the first round proper. That game is likely to be played on Saturday, September 23.
