Thomas Galdames to Rangers transfer swings wide open as Godoy Cruz boss delivers 'leave with love' confession

Thomas Galdames delivered what could be a send-off to remember by notching two assists for Godoy Cruz in the Copa Argentina – and left his manager heartbroken.

Rangers have been heavily-linked with the left-sided defender after a £3millon swoop for Jose Cordoba dramatically collapsed. Philippe Clement is in the market to put his stamp on his Ibrox squad and start his revamp with full-back Jefte already in the door from Fluminense while Mohamed Diomande's loan becomes a full-time switch.

Galdames played the full 90 minutes in the 4-0 win over El Porvenir with a key role by setting up two goals. He's into the final six months of his contract and would be available for a cut-price fee this summer and his current club boss seems resigned to losing the defender.

Godoy Cruz manager Daniel Oldra was asked if the player will be allowed to 'leave with love", to which he replied: "Galdames has made me angrier than my son, how can he not have me as a father? He has had a great year, I know I'm going to lose it. But football has those things. Let them leave with a love from Godoy Cruz which means that they have been happy here."

It comes as Rangers get ready to head for CANCUN for a transfer summit in June. Record Sport understands an Ibrox representative will check into TransferRoom's Mexico convention on June 3 and 4. More than 100 club and agencies will be present - including the likes of Manchester City, Bayer Leverkusen and Inter Miami.

Founder and CEO of TransferRoom Jonas Ankersen said: "With Copa América on the horizon in the US and the World Cup set to kick off in Mexico, North America is truly taking centre stage in the world of football. And with the TransferRoom Summit, Cancún becomes the launchpad for the summer
