'This week' - Goldbridge now drops bold Man United transfer prediction

YouTuber

The transfer window only opened on Friday, but considering some Premier League clubs announced signings as early as the day after last season finished, preparations will have long been underway ahead of the next campaign – and United need a reshuffle more than most.

The club finished the season 35 points off title winners Manchester City and with a goal difference, 73 worse off with zero – the lowest inside the top eight.

It was also their lowest-ever Premier League points tally, and although plenty of rumours have been swirling, no new names have yet been brought to the club.

Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong has perhaps been the heaviest link, with a reunion with his former Ajax manager Erik ten Hag on the cards.

Ajax winger Antony has also been discussed internally, as well as Jurrien Timber ahead of proposed reconnections with the head coach who led the Dutch giants to an Eredivisie title last year.

Ahead of their tour of Australia, United will face arch-rivals Liverpool in Thailand on 12th July, and with the squad still bereft of any signings, Goldbridge is expecting movement in the market this week.

Speaking on The United Stand, he said: “Next week is the 20th of June – two weeks until we go on tour – we’ve bought nobody. Something has to happen this week and I believe it will, because I cannot imagine that we will be in this position in a week’s time.”

With the UEFA Nations League fixtures finishing up, more activity should and will be anticipated.

While United are yet to bring in any new names, they have at least done a good job of shifting some of the deadwood around the team.

Edinson Cavani, Nemanja Matic, Juan Mata, Jesse Lingard and Paul Pogba will all leave the club this summer upon the expiry
