Ajax star Antony issues injury recovery update amid Manchester United transfer interest

Manchester United transfer target Antony has issued a positive update on his recovery from a recent ankle injury by sharing a video on his Instagram page.

The Brazilian, who is a top target for United manager Erik ten Hag, has been sidelined since April, meaning he missed Ajax's last eight games of the 2021/22 campaign. He was forced off during Brazil's 4-0 win over Bolivia in a World Cup qualifier.

It has meant that he has missed the start of collective pre-season training at Ajax, being forced to continue to work on his rehabilitation on his own, opposed to linking up with the rest of his team-mates, as they look to embark on a new chapter under new boss Alfred Schreuder. Last week, Schreuder issued an update on Antony, insisting that he hoped for him to be fit by the end of pre-season.

"He is still recovering from his injury," said Schreuder. "But I think the next few weeks are important.

"For his injury, we hope it improves quickly. I assume that he will be fit at the end of the preparation."

Although the conclusion of pre-season is still several weeks away, Antony, who United believe is the ideal candidate to solve their right-wing issues, has issued an update on his recovery programme on Instagram. He has shared a video of him going through his paces at Ajax's training ground, working both in the gym and outside on the grass.

He was working on an array of fitness drills, featuring plenty of outside running, suggesting that his ankle is becoming stronger and stronger. In the gym, too, the signs were also very encouraging.
