This Morning's Ben Shephard makes 'breaking news' announcement mid-show

On Tuesday's This Morning, Ben Shephard made a "breaking news" announcement whilst hosting alongside Cat Deeley. They kicked off the show discussing the latest headlines with guests Ashley James and Tom Swarbrick.

Also on set was Martin Lewis, ready to share his latest financial advice. In the middle of this segment, Ben surprised viewers with the breaking news that Andy Murray had pulled out of Wimbledon.

Cat started by saying: "Tom and Ashley are here now to talk about some more news stories," with Ben cutting in: "Yeah, a bit of breaking news while we have been on air.

"Very sadly, Andy Murray has announced he will not be competing in the Men's Singles at this year's Wimbledon," reports the Express.

He added: "He was battling really hard to come back from injury. He is going to play in the doubles, his team said, 'Despite working incredibly hard on his recovery since his operation just over a week ago, Andy has taken the very difficult decision not to play this year's singles and as you can imagine, he is very disappointed but has confirmed he will be playing the doubles for the last time'."

Ben shared that the 37 year old tennis star underwent surgery to remove a spinal cyst just on Saturday, June 22 and returned to the practice courts days later.

It was noted that Andy had a practice set with Kyle Edmund on Monday, and then he said he would consult his team and family before making his final decision.

However, the former world No. 1 woke up on the day, deciding against playing world No. 38 Tomas Machac on Centre Court today.

In Monday's match, the Scotsman triumphed over Edmund with a score of 6-3 2-0 and concluded his 90-minute training session by hitting alongside his coach Jonny O'Mara.
