'This is a real possibility' - Journalist expects West Ham to sign 19-cap defender by Monday

There is a ‘real possibility’ that West Ham could sign Sparta Prague left-back David Hancko this month, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

The 24-year-old has been a key figure for the Czech outfit this season, shining both domestically and in Europe.

Hancko has made 17 starts in the Gambrinus League, chipping in with four goals, as well as starting six of his side’s Europa League matches, where he has added two more goals and an assist to his tally.

West Ham have been linked with a move for the 19-time capped Slovakia international and now a further update has emerged.

Speaking to Give Me Sport, O’Rourke claimed it is a move he could see materialising before Monday’s transfer cutoff:

“I think this is a real possibility for West Ham. It might be an easier deal to do than all the other targets that they’ve been chasing this month.

“He’s done well for Sparta Prague this season, six goals in 27 games and four assists, and can play left-back as well as centre-back so would add a lot of options to David Moyes’ squad.”

Hancko could be a great signing for the Hammers, going the same way as both Tomas Soucek and Vladimir Coufal in arriving from Prague. Relations between the two clubs could surely help the transfer go through, too.

The left-back’s aforementioned quality in the final third could help add an extra dimension to David Moyes’ side’s game and he could provide strong competition for Aaron Cresswell, who has struggled on and off with injuries in recent times.

The fact that he is also capable of playing at centre-back is an added bonus, especially with left-footed Angelo Ogbonna out injured for the rest of the season.

In other news, some West Ham fans are buzzing over a transfer update. Read more here.
