'If he’s not satisfied' - Journalist claims West Ham colossus could 'walk away' from the club
West Ham midfielder Tomas Soucek would be prepared to ‘walk away’ from negotiations if he is unsatisfied with the club’s latest contract offer, according to journalist Dean Jones (as per GiveMeSport).
Since his initial arrival in east London in January 2020, the Czech Republic captain has proven to be one of David Moyes’ most important players at West Ham. He has established a formidable midfield partnership with Declan Rice, who has hailed his 26-year-old team-mate as ‘unbelievable’.
For his contribution in helping the Irons to qualify for European football, Soucek was awarded the Hammer of the Year award in 2021. Combined with the midfielder having started 60 of a possible 62 Premier League games, this demonstrates how valuable he is to this West Ham side.
With his contract set to expire in 2024, the Hammers have been keen on entering negotiations with the player’s representatives over a new deal, expecting to improve upon his current £47,000-a-week salary.
According to Jones, Soucek would be prepared to ‘walk away’ from the negotiating table if he is unsatisfied with the club’s latest contract offer, potentially seeking a move elsewhere.
Speaking to GiveMeSport, the journalist claimed: “If he’s not satisfied with the offer, he’d walk away from the table, I’m told.”
Soucek has proven to be one of the Irons’ most crucial players since arriving from Slavia Prague in 2020, highlighted by his excellent statistics.
As per WhoScored, the 26-year-old has averaged 2.2 tackles, 1.5 interceptions and 2.9 clearances per game in the Premier League this season. These figures place him in the top four Hammers players for each metric, demonstrating how big of a role he has played in the club’s recent success.
