Journalist is confident West Ham's owners will back David Moyes in the summer

Journalist Pete O’Rourke is ‘sure’ that West Ham United’s owners will back manager David Moyes in the next transfer window.

The Hammers have excelled under the Scotsman’s tutelage over the last 18 months, but there is still a sense of frustration at the lack of investment in his first-team squad.

Moyes guided West Ham to a remarkable sixth-place finish in the Premier League last term, qualifying for European football as a result.

And the capital club have managed to maintain their outstanding form in the current campaign.

At present, Moyes’ charges are sitting in fourth position in the top-flight table and have also qualified for the fifth-round of the FA Cup and the last-16 of the Europa League.

Nevertheless, a large section of the club’s supporters have been left frustrated by their lack of activity in the January transfer market.

Since Sebastien Haller moved to Ajax over a year ago, West Ham have been left with Michail Antonio as their only recognised striker, significantly limiting Moyes’ attacking options.

The defence was also widely regarded as an area of concern after first-choice centre-back Angelo Ogbonna was ruled out for the season after picking up an ACL injury.

However, no new acquisitions arrived in the winter window despite West Ham’s obvious frailties in certain positions.

O’Rourke is confident that West Ham’s owners GSB and new investor Dan Křetínský will provide Moyes with financial backing in the summer, though, as he continues to defy expectations.
