'They really struggle' - Kieran Devlin shares big concern over one thing happening at Celtic

Celtic‘s inability to play the ball out from defence against good sides is a key weakness that needs to be addressed, according to journalist Kieran Devlin.

The Hoops entertained Rangers on Sunday afternoon, knowing that avoiding defeat would leave them in an extremely strong position in the Scottish Premiership title race.

It ended up finishing 1-1 at Parkhead, with Celtic the better team for long periods but arguably finding themselves lucky not to concede late on.

It was a positive result in a potentially memorable season, but that didn’t mean that everyone was completely content after the game.

Taking to Twitter on Monday, The Athletic‘s Devlin claimed that Celtic’s ball-playing ability from the back in big matches needs to improve:

While it seems harsh to be too critical of this Celtic side, considering the amazing strides they have made under Ange Postecoglou, Devlin does make a fair point.

There were times on Sunday when the Hoops’ ball retention and quality from the back were disappointing, gifting Rangers possession in key attacking areas.

As Devlin alludes to, that could become a huge issue against top-class Champions League sides next season, who are ruthless in picking off teams when they lose possession.

It is something that should be worked on during the summer, in order for Celtic to go up another level, but there is also no denying that the positives hugely outweigh the negatives currently.

In other news, a journalist has dropped a Celtic transfer claim. Read more here.
