'They need to' - Bolton Wanderers squad sent message as Ricardo Santos injury details emerge

Bolton Wanderers boss Ian Evatt says players in his squad must take the opportunities when they are granted to them this season as there are plenty of others behind them ready to take their place in they do not perform.

Wanderers are unbeaten in their first two League One games so far this season. They followed up a draw on the opening day of the campaign versus Ipswich Town away with an impressive 3-0 victory over Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday.

Evatt made three changes for that game as Kyle Dempsey, Jack Iredale and Amadou Bakayoko all came into the team. Dempsey scored twice, Bakayoko grabbed an assist and Iredale looked composed and a threat from the left wing-back position.

Evatt deployed a young team with the likes of teenagers James Trafford and Conor Bradley, as well as 21-year-old Morley who was on the scoresheet versus the Chairboys. He hopes the young guns in his squad can realise their potential.

And Evatt believes players must take the chances when given to them this season because there is a queue of others behind them ready to step into the breach if they do not. He felt that chances were taken on Saturday.

He said: “They need to (take opportunities), that’s their job because if they don’t then we’ve got 12 or 13 others that can step in and take their place. Players have to be ready to play and match ready and that comes from the training ground. I’ve said this a lot to you guys that there isn’t a magic tap that you turn off and on day on day or turn it on for Saturdays.
