Newcastle 'fully expected' to sign two new players at St James' Park

Newcastle United are still expected to make two more signings before the transfer window closes in September, according to Sky Sports’ Keith Downie.

The Magpies have made just three signings so far this summer, but it is thought that the club will bring in more faces this summer.

Eddie Howe’s side have been linked with numerous players over the summer, but have only been able to secure the signings of Lille’s Sven Botman, Burnley’s Nick Pope, and Matt Targett whose loan deal from Aston Villa last season has now been made permanent.

Leicester City attacking midfielder James Maddison is the latest in a long line of attacking reinforcements linked with a move to St. James’ Park, with the Foxes reportedly turning down a fee of just over £40m from the Magpies for the 25-year-old, with Brendan Rodgers’ side demanding a fee close to £60m.

Newcastle have also been linked with Harvey Barnes from the same club, and Everton’s Anthony Gordon this summer.

And Downie believes that Howe will still get two more additions this summer, with at least one of them being a loan deal.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “Whether it’s a permanent deal or a loan we’ll have to wait and see.

“I’ve been saying this all window long, but I still fully expect them to bring in a striker and a winger before the window’s out.

“I would be amazed if both of them are permanent signings, unless they’re able to keep the prices down.

“I still would expect one to be permanent and one to be a loan.”

Alongside Maddison, Barnes, and Gordon, the Magpies have been linked with a number of young starlets this summer, with Howe and PIF struggling to get more signings through the door, following the kick-off of the Premier League season.
