Tottenham 'definitely looking' to sign 'creative playmaker' at Hotspur Way

Tottenham Hotspur are ‘definitely looking’ to add another creative midfielder to their squad before the end of the transfer window, although a move for James Maddison may be too big an ask, according to Ryan Taylor of the Daily Express.

Antonio Conte has overseen a busy summer of business at Hotspur Way but could still add to his squad ahead of the September 1 deadline.

Six new players have made their way to north London this summer and signed with Spurs including Yves Bissouma, Richarlison, Djed Spence and Ivan Perisic.

With Champions League football returning to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium his season, Conte was no doubt eager to ensure he had the strength in depth needed to compete on all fronts.

But the Italian may not be done in the market just yet. It has previously been reported that he wants to add a new creative midfielder to his side with Leicester City ace Maddison an apparent target.

Newcastle United are also eager to sign the England international this summer and have already had two bids knocked back by the Foxes, who are demanding £60 million for his services.

Brendan Rodgers was quizzed on the futures of Maddison and Chelsea target Wesley Fofana last week and reiterated his desire to hang onto the duo, saying: “These players are not for sale. We need to move players out but it’s not getting rid of everyone and certainly not our best assets.”

Roma winger Nicolo Zaniolo has also been linked with a move to Tottenham and it will be interesting to see what Spurs do in the closing stages of the window.
