'They are completely lost' - Cristiano Ronaldo and his Manchester United teammates slammed

Former Manchester United assistant manager Rene Meulensteen has slammed the club's underachieving stars after another heavy defeat in the Premier League.

Moises Caicedo, Marc Cucurella, Pascal Gross and Leandro Trossard were all on the scoresheet for Graham Potter's side as the Seagulls ran riot on the south coast. Defeat means that it is now not possible for United to reach the top four this season and so they will miss out on Champions League football next season.

Meulensteen, who was assistant to Sir Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford, questioned how some of United's stars were unable to perform this campaign. Speaking on talkSPORT, the 58-year-old said: "There were a lot of expectations, even from myself.

"When Ronaldo comes in, he comes in for one reason only and that’s to improve the team and basically get United challenging again. They were second in the league, so no reason to believe anything else.

"For some reason, there was that lack of consistency at the start of the season and performances started to fall away. The season has been derailed more and more.

"You saw the frustration kick in when they got knocked out of this competition, then they got knocked out of the FA Cup, then they lost ground in the league. They changed managers again and [Ralf] Rangnick came in.

"Rangnick’s impact has not brought what everyone expected, to push for the top four and Champions League is so important. They have been derailed and irritation has turned into frustration.
