Brandon Williams issues statement after Instagram post amid Norwich City investigation claims

Manchester United defender Brandon Williams is not under investigation by Norwich City over Instagram posts he uploaded.

Williams, 21, is on a season-long loan at Norwich, who have been relegated back to the Championship for the second time in the last three seasons.

The United academy graduate started in Norwich's 4-0 home defeat to West Ham on Sunday and Williams's representatives have clarified he was abused after the game and then followed home.

Williams responded to fans trailing him by uploading a post of his dog onto his Instagram page that read: "For the people that followed me, he's always awake". He also posted a picture of his middle finger raised with the caption, "What a beautiful day easy up Norwich City FC."

In a statement, Williams's representatives said: "Following the game against West Ham, Brandon was subject to taunting and abuse whilst driving away from the stadium.

"Immediately thereafter Brandon was followed as he travelled home. Those following him only desisted once they realised Brandon had noticed them following him.

"There is no club investigation into Brandon.

"This conduct by a small number of fans is unacceptable. The vast majority of fans have been overwhelmingly supportive during Brandon’s loan time at Norwich.

"Brandon is grateful to Norwich City for their support and to all the true fans of Norwich who have sent him messages of support at this time."

Williams, who has played 29 times for Norwich, made his United debut in September 2019 and is contracted to the club until 2024.

The Harpurhey-raised full-back was in attendance for United's home win over Norwich last month.
