Jose Mourinho reveals his Manchester United 'wish' under Erik ten Hag

Jose Mourinho has revealed he hopes that Manchester United return to their best under Erik ten Hag, despite the way his time at a club came to an end.

United officially unveiled Ten Hag as their new manager on Monday but the Dutchman saw first-hand the scale of the task on his plate after he watched his new side fall to yet another defeat on the final day of the season to Crystal Palace. The loss was a fitting end to the club's worst-ever Premier League campaign as they only managed to register a meagre 58 points.

Ten Hag is the third permanent manager in less than four years after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Mourinho, who was sacked towards the end of 2018 with results deteriorating and the atmosphere around the club turning toxic. A few months later, the Portuguese took a parting shot by claiming that finishing second with United was one of the best achievements in his career as ' people don't know what is going on behind the scenes.'

Mourinho has stood by that opinion but hopes that the mentality and organisation of the club will finally change in order for Ten Hag to be a success.
