"There could even be..." – talkSPORT reporter now hints at Southampton backroom reshuffle

Southampton could make changes to their coaching staff this summer following their collapse in the second half of the season, according to talkSPORT reporter Alex Crook.

Following some impressive results over the festive period and beyond, Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side were on the cusp of the European places in the middle of February.

But just one Premier League victory in the last three months has seen the Saints slide desperately down the top-flight standings.

As a result, Crook reckons there could be a behind-the-scenes shakeup at St Mary’s Stadium in the off-season.

After a slow start to the season, the South Coast outfit kicked into gear over Christmas, and came up with some fine results across a two-month period, which saw them beat the likes of Tottenham, West Ham and draw at Manchester United, while thrashing Brentford.

As a result, Southampton were within four points of Spurs at the end of February, following a five-match unbeaten run.

But since then, they’ve endured a woeful run of form, which has seen them collect just five points from a possible 33 available, and drop from ninth to 16th, having lost eight times during that period.

Supporters vented their frustration towards Hasenhuttl with chants of ‘you don’t know what you’re doing‘ during the 3-0 defeat at Brentford earlier this month.

Regardless, the Austrian still has the backing of the owners, although Crook reckons that some of his coaching staff could be moved on at the end of the season.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “I think they’ve carried out quite an in-depth review about what’s gone wrong in the second half of the season, because they’ve barely won a game since mid-February.
