The unseen Adam Idah Celtic impact revealed as Liam Scales lifts lid on Irish mate he'd love to have back

Callum McGregor and Joe Hart cracking the whip. Adam Idah cracking the jokes.

That was the dressing room chemistry that helped Celtic produce a title surge just as Brendan Rodgers’ side were most in need of a positive reaction to a mid-season wobble. Idah’s on-field impact was clear for all to see after arriving on a deadline day loan from Norwich and banging in nine goals including a last gasp Scottish Cup Final winner to clinch the double.

But the Irishman’s craic off the park went largely unseen by the punters. According to Liam Scales it was another huge factor in the change in mood when the pressure really kicked in towards the end of the season. And it’s another reason, on top of his predatory instincts on the park, that he’d love to see his Ireland team mate back terrorising Premiership defences this season. Scales said: “Adam is full of stories, he’s funny. You can have a laugh with him all the time. He is always in a good mood. He brought fun to the dressing room. He was good for a night out as well at the end of the year!

“Others are big on the football leadership, Adam’s more happy-go-lucky. He has a craic with everybody. You need people like that. On top of leaders like Joe and Cal you need others who balance it out I suppose. He was massive for us and scored massive goals and put in massive performances. We would love to have him back, but it is out of our control.”

Idah produced as big an impact off the bench as he did when he was handed a start by Rodgers and his power allied to Kyogo’s craft is the perfect balance, according to Scales. He said: “Adam has more physicality. Kyogo is better at playing off people’s shoulders and he scores loads of goals doing that. But Adam gives you that different option.
