The three remaining Manchester United summer transfer priorities

Manchester United have ticked their three key transfer boxes ahead of the new Premier League season.

The arrival of striker Rasmus Hojlund means Erik ten Hag has the striker he was seeking while Andre Onana and Mason Mount joined earlier in the window. An attacking focal point, ball-playing goalkeeper and versatile and incisive midfielder were the main priorities this summer and United have secured all three ahead of the curtain-raiser against Wolves.

It means the Reds squad is stronger than last term and the first XI has the look of a side capable of challenging the best in the top flight. Ten Hag will seek to offload some fringe players over the final weeks of the window to raise funds and potentially fund a couple of further arrivals. For while the United starting line-up looks strong, there are still some squad gaps to address.

Perhaps the most pressing in terms of first-team requirements is an additional central midfielder. United have a plethora of attack-minded options with Mount joining Bruno Fernandes and Christian Eriksen as players capable of unlocking defences.

But defensive options are not yet at the requisite strength, Casemiro aside. The Brazilian was instrumental last term in a superb first season at Old Trafford. But behind him in the pecking order are Scott McTominay and Fred, with neither cut from the same cloth. The latter may well depart this summer and McTominay could also leave.
