Family hit out at beach 'like Humber estuary' in £18,000 TUI Mexico holiday from hell

A family have hit out at TUI after their 'holiday from hell' saw 'disgusting' beaches and their 10-year-old boy 'almost impaled' by the sliding glass door in his room.

The Johnson family, who spent over £18,000 on their trip to Mexico, said they were plagued by an 'eggy smell' due to a beach covered and stockpiled with decaying seaweed and 'muddy' water, which they say came at odds with the pictures of white sandy beaches depicted on TUI's website.

They described the resort as 'vile' as TUI said it its customers’ 'health and safety is our highest priority' and vowed to investigate and follow-up on the report, reports LeedsLive.

“It was the hotel from hell. It was dreadful from day one,” said Grandmother Tessa Johnson, recounting her family’s 'horrific' trip to Azul Beach Resort Riviera Cancún, owned by Karisma Hotels & Resorts, which lasted 13 days, between July 22 and August 3.

The Johnson family spent £18,108 on the trip for their seven guests, which included grandparents Robert and Teresa with their son Gavin and his wife Emma and their children Ollie, 10, Luke, eight, plus Cousin Ashton, five.

They’ve said the children were all charged at full price with no concessions. They booked two rooms with two double beds in each. As soon as they’d arrived, they were told that one of their rooms would have one fewer bed. So, this meant grandparents Robert and Teresa would have to sleep in the same bed as their youngest grandchild.

They've said this was 'unacceptable' as they’d paid full price from the beds and the five-year-old particularly hates sharing a bed with other people. They had to sit in the reception for half an hour
