'The team is in crisis' - Portuguese media pile in on Man City after Ruben Amorim demolition job

It was the perfect night for incoming manager Ruben Amorim after the historic result against Manchester United's rivals across the road - Manchester City.

The 39-year-old's final game in charge of Sporting Clube de Portugal at the Jose Alvalde Stadium certainly ensured he went out with a bang. The Portuguese giants defeated City 4-1 in the Champions League despite conceding an early goal through Phil Foden.

Last week, Amorim joked that United fans would call him the 'new' Sir Alex Ferguson if Sporting beat the Premier League champions. Well, he did just that but later admitted: "That was a joke. I certainly won't read anything for six months, I did the same at Sporting. I won't read anything or have access to anything," Amorim said.

Speaking after the match, Pep Guardiola said: "Congratulations, best wishes to Sporting. I have nothing to add. When you lose 4-1 you can only congratulate the opponent. We could have closed the game in the first half and in the third minute of the second half it was 3-1.

"We could also have avoided the penalties. We are going through a difficult time, but we have to learn from this."
