Netflix cancels 'beautiful and imaginative' series after one season despite perfect 100 percent Rotten Tomatoes score

Netflix aficionados are feeling let down once more as another promising series hits the dust after its initial run.

This latest disappointment adds to a growing list of axed shows by the streaming giant in 2023, leaving fans particularly irate after the cancellations of acclaimed fantasy series Kaos and Dead Boy Detectives.

Debuting on HBO Max in October 2023 to critical praise, Scavengers Reign expanded its fanbase when it launched on Netflix in May. The series centred on space adventurers marooned on a mystifying planet bustling with magnificent flora and aggressive beings.

Despite the series achieving a rare perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes, its numbers weren't sufficient for a renewal on either service.

The show's creator, Joe Bennett, shared the unfortunate news and teased what could have been in season two on Instagram, prompting a wave of protest from loyal fans, reports the Mirror.

"You are KIDDING ME?!" a disgruntled fan vented in the comment section.

"SR was the most beautiful and interesting thing on TV since maybe ever! It blows my mind that it wasn't immediately given several more seasons."

Amid calls for alternative ways to fund the show, one puzzled supporter commented, "No season 2 of this yet [they're] wanting a 5th season of Emily in Paris," and queried, "You got a Patreon?"

Another chimed in lamenting, "This is such a waste, when profit plays against quality shows like this one.

"This is so important for me, I've never seen anything like it and we need more of it."

Bennett's announcement also sparked a wave of criticism towards Netflix on Reddit, with one user expressing their disappointment: "It's really heartbreaking that such a uniquely beautiful show might not find a new home for season 2."
