The seaside town near Greater Manchester named UK’s most popular and affordable staycation destination

Blackpool has been named the most affordable and popular staycation destination to visit this spring, according to a new study. The iconic North West resort beat the likes of Scarborough and Weston-Super-Mare to bag the number one spot.

The list was compiled by looking at the average monthly number of Google searches for hotels in 50 towns and villages across the country, the price of hotels and the popularity of each destination on TikTok. It comes as many holidaymakers consider staycations over foreign holidays to save money and avoid the stress of flying.

With 135,000 searches on Google each month on average and an impressive 980.8 million TikTok hashtag views, Blackpool proved to be the most popular destination. The research, conducted by credit card brand Aqua, revealed that out of the top 10 most popular destinations, Blackpool ranked the cheapest too, with an average hotel setting you back £72.68 a night.

It’s slightly more than the cheapest location overall, which was Paignton in Devon. Hotels here cost on average £72.16 per night. However, it was not as popular on social media, with only 17 million views.

Bournemouth was named the second most popular and affordable hotel, with around 90,500 monthly searches. A one-night’s stay here will cost on average £87.52, while the won also scored the highest number of hashtag views on TikTok at 868.3 million.

Coming in third place was Scarborough. The coastal resort in North Yorkshire has around 49,500 monthly searches, as well as 686.4 million views on TikTok. A hotel stay here costs around £94.64.
