Storm Kathleen: Greater Manchester weekend weather forecast as warnings in place across UK

Wet and windy weather is forecast up and down the UK this weekend as Storm Kathleen is set to sweep much of the country.

Weather warnings for snow, wind, and rain are in place across Scotland, England, and Northern Ireland, with 'unseasonably strong winds' expected to batter parts of western Britain on Saturday. Gusts of up to 50mph are expected 'widely', according to the Met Office, while some exposed areas could see winds reaching 60 to 70 mph, with large waves also 'likely' in coastal areas.

But warmer temperatures are also on the horizon, with temperatures in parts of the country likely to reach around 20C, forecasters say.

Greater Manchester has managed to dodge any weather warnings, but looks set for a windy weekend, with dryer conditions turning rainy by Sunday.

Here's the forecast in full as we move into the weekend.

The day will start off cloudy, but we'll see some light rain by lunchtime with winds set to kick in throughout the day. Highs of 16C.

Overnight we can expect to see some showers, with highs of 9C.

Saturday looks set to be the driest and warmest day of the weekend, with highs of 18C. Forecasters say we could see some showers in the morning, but these are expected to shift by the afternoon, with some sunny spells on the way.

Winds are expected to be strong as the country faces severe gales as a result of Storm Kathleen.

We can expect to see sunny intervals changing to light showers by late morning on Sunday, according to the Met Office. The wind should ease, but it may still feel blustery, with highs of 14C.
