The reasoning behind Arsenal's big Adidas decision as Mikel Arteta makes major transfer call

Arsenal's decision to wear red shorts for their game against Watford prompted an outcry of confusion on social media.

The Gunners usually wear white shorts when they wear their red home kit, having worn red shorts just once in the last 45 years.

understands that Arsenal's decision to wear red shorts was a commercial decision from the club in partnership with their kit manufacturer Adidas.

A small amount of shorts were available on sale via Arsenal's club shop at the start of the season, but haven't been available for several months which suggests that Adidas are testing the waters to see if the red on red could be a success.

Indeed, it certainly worked on the pitch as Arsenal recorded a 3-2 win at Vicarage Road, although it remains unclear whether they could wear the red shorts in a future fixture again this season.

Meanwhile, Arsenal will sit down with Alexandre Lacazette at the end of the season with it looking increasingly likely that the Frenchman will leave the club.

Lacazette's contract expires in the summer and he is already courting interest from teams in France, Italy and Spain.

Sources close to the player told last summer that Lacazette had 'no intention' of extending his stay at the club, with Arsenal only prepared to offer a short-term deal if contract talks are reopened in the summer.

"It is the case [that we want]. I said to you, at the end of the season where we know where we are, we’ll sit down with those three players and between all of us, we’ll decide what we do to move forward," Mikel Arteta said.

understands that Arsenal will look to sign two forwards this summer, along with a central midfielder and back up right back.
