It didn't take long for the news of Leeds' demise at Elland Road to reach Manchester United fans 40 miles away at Old Trafford.

"Leeds are falling apart again," echoed around the ground and those who checked their phones for the news would have noted it was Harry Kane who scored the opening goal in a game that relegated historic rivals Leeds to the second division.

Tottenham have been awful this season but Leeds made them look like Real Madrid. Sam Allardyce was seething as his side lost 4-1 and the Reds' final-day victory was made sweeter by the West Yorkshire club losing their Premier League status.

Although Kane took no extra joy from his role in sending Leeds down, that might change in the future should he play them in the future wearing a United shirt. This summer window seems like now or never regarding his future at Spurs.

The media-trained Kane was asked about his future after the final whistle on Sunday and he told BT Sport: "It has been a disappointing season. We can't let this win dust over that. A lot to work on. We have had to show fight in some moments.

"A club this size should not be finishing eighth and we need to go away, enjoy a break and look how we can improve. It is part and parcel of being a footballer [speculation about leaving] especially when you are at the top of your game.

"I have focused on this season and helping the team as much as possible. I'm forward to a nice break and some games with England."

There will be no European football for Tottenham next season after they finished eighth in the table. They have hit rock bottom - conceding five goals in 20 minutes against Newcastle was comical - and Kane deserves
