The Rangers jury is out on Michael Beale and his transfers and one exit still has fans fuming – Hotline

It's a bit early for the dreaded vote of confidence but the Hotline reckons Rangers boss Michael Beale is safe for now.

The buzz of pre-season excitement at Ibrox has given way to the gnashing of teeth after Saturday’s calamitous campaign opener at Killie. But Beale’s Gers were back on track against Servette on Wednesday night, although they Londonner admitted his side should be heading to Geneva next week with a far bigger advantage than their slender 2-1 lead. However, George Wilson, West Sussex, reckons the Light Blues boss will soon have his team firmly on track.

He said: “Eddie Easson has been on the Hotline all week talking about Michael Beale getting sacked if they don’t beat Servette. Rangers were unlucky not to win by a barrowload on Wednesday night and the game showed Beale has signed some good players who will be very good when they familiarise themselves with one another as it’s a whole new team. Whatever happens in the Champions League there is no chance Beale will be sacked in the near future.”

Alfie Mullin, London, said: “Well, it's only half time in the tie. In the early part of the first half, Rangers looked like they were going to run away with it. Over all, it wasn't too bad a performance. At least they didn't get caught napkin by Serviette.”

But not everyone is so convinced. John Bruce emailed in: “Rangers now take a one-goal lead over to Switzerland but they’ve contrived to turn a comfortable 2-0 early start in to a nervy advantage after conceding a penalty – given away by striker Cyriel Dessers – before then failing to exploit the other team going down to 10 men.

“A sign, perhaps, that some new signings are trying too hard. Others are still trying to gel – and the jury is still out on one or two.”
