The Premier League record backing Manchester United to beat Man City this weekend

Manchester will come to a standstill on Sunday afternoon when Manchester United make the short journey to face their noisy neighbours in the Premier League.

Man City are the reigning English champions and head into the match as clear favourites to win, despite the recent resurgence of Erik ten Hag's side.

United have already beaten both Liverpool and Arsenal at home this season, though it will be a completely different test when they take on Pep Guardiola's side away from home.

City have been in irresistible form again this season, particularly at home, where they boast a faultess winning record across all competitions so far.

In fact, the Blues have only conceded three times at the Etihad this season, and even in the games when they did, they came from behind to win on both occassions.

City last dropped points at home back in April when they drew 2-2 with Liverpool and their only home defeat this calendar year came at the start of it when they lost to Tottenham in the league.

However, despite their formidable form, there is one record backing United to go out and get the three points this weekend.

That's because the away side has won 21 times in Premier League meetings between City and United – no fixture has been won by the visitors more often in the competition’s history.

Four of United's last five wins against City have come at the Etihad stadium, with their last coming in March of last year, though they did lose twice against their local rivals last season.

Guardiola's side head into the weekend as the favourites but the recent quirk of this fixture certainly gives a rejuvenated United reason to dream of another memorable away day.
