The perfect Josh Taylor comeback opponents revealed including Conor Benn

After a disappointing 2023, the next 12 months promise to be a big year for Josh Taylor, with potential showdowns against Jack Catterall and Conor Benn offering him a shot at redemption.

The Scot's clear-cut points victory against Jose Ramirez's in May 2021 saw him come the first four-belt, undisputed, British champion in the modern era and also put him right up alongside the late great Ken Buchanan as only the second Scot to ever claim the undisputed crown in any weight class.

But since that glorious night two and a half years ago, things have not gone to plan for "Tartan Tornado". In his first defence of his four world titles (along with the prestigious Ring magazine belt) the Prestonpans-born boxer faced off against Englishman Catterall in a huge showdown at the OVO Hydro in Glasgow in February 2022.

A below-par performance from the Scot combined with a valiant display from former British champ Catterall in his first world title bout resulted in a controversial split decision victory for Taylor. The result provoked a furious response from large parts of the boxing world, and despite calls from promoters and other figures in the sport, a rematch is yet to materialise.

In his next fight that came 18 months later, Taylor remained at super-lightweight to defend his WBO and Ring magazine belts against Teofimo Lopez after vacating his three other major belts. Lopez had previously campaigned at lightweight but the American made the step up look seamless to score a convincing unanimous win against Taylor, who once again looked drained at the 140 pound limit.

The Hibs supporting fighter may now look to chase glory at welterweight but for many in boxing circles, he needs to write the wrong of his performance against Catterall
