The most delayed flight in the country revealed - and yep, it's a Manchester Airport service

Manchester Airport had the most delayed route out of the UK this year, and seven out of the 12 most delayed flights departed our city’s airport.

The recent travel chaos at UK airports is the latest episode in what has been a year of long delays for passengers.

Almost a third (30 percent) of flights leaving UK airports took off at least 15 minutes later than planned in the year to June 2023, according to data from the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA). That’s the latest month for which data is available. The average delay time was 17 minutes.

Some routes are far more unreliable than others though, with the majority of flights on 178 routes experiencing delays of over 15 minutes.

The TUI flight from Manchester to Bridgetown, Barbados was the most likely to be delayed from a UK airport in the year to June 2023, according to the CAA data. Some 84pc of flights to the Caribbean city were delayed by at least 15 minutes.

The route had an average delay time of 72 minutes, which is the joint-highest in the country, along with TUI’s flight from Birmingham to Ilha Do Sal, Cape Verde.

Gatwick had the next two flights most likely to be delayed, with 75pc of Wizz Air routes to Nice and Vienna getting delayed by at least 15 minutes.
