Sometimes, out of the grey comes true beauty. And that was certainly the case yesterday evening when a huge rainbow formed across burnt orange skies in Manchester.

But first, let’s look at some of the reaction to Suella Braverman’s controversial comments on rough sleepers.

A GP who knows people who have resorted to sleeping in cemeteries says the Home Secretary is talking ‘nonsense’ about rough sleepers.

Oldham GP Dr Zahid Chauhan says Suella Braverman’s comments were ‘completely inappropriate’ when she claimed rough sleeping is sometimes a ‘lifestyle choice’.

“I’ve seen people sleeping in graveyards with a tent because they’ve got nowhere else to go. This is the manifestation of crisis when you become a rough sleeper in a tent,” he said.

“There are loads of events that take place before that and unfortunately our services are not geared up to support them. Our wider systems are not geared up to support them.”

Dr Chauhan, who founded Manchester-based charity Homeless Friendly, believes Ms Braverman’s remarks have exacerbated the stigma around homeless people.
