'The league ain't ready' — Man United fans go wild after Anthony Elanga's first international goal

Manchester United fans were singing the praises of Anthony Elanga after the youngster scored his first goal for Sweden.

Although it was in a losing cause against Norway, Elanga opened up his international account in some style as Sweden were beaten 2-1 by their Scandinavian neighbours. The 20-year-old came off the bench to pull a goal back for his country in stoppage time with a superb finish.

Elanga linked up well with Dejan Kulusevski before receiving the ball 20 yards from goal, and brilliantly curled the ball home to halve the deficit. Unfortunately for Sweden, there wasn’t enough time for them to grab an equaliser after Erling Haaland’s brace earlier in the game.

For Elanga though, it proved to be a memorable night in only his third senior appearance at international level. His strike caught the eyes of United fans on social media, and no doubt new United boss Erik ten Hag will have been impressed as well.

Reflecting on his first international goal, Elanga said: “It feels good, but we lost against Norway and it was a match we wanted to win. I just wanted to come in and do a great job and show the fans what I can do. I hope I did, and now we focus on Serbia.

“Janne [Anderson, Sweden manager] just told me that I would do my thing, push them and try to score. That’s what I was trying to do today.

“We started the second half very well and in the return match I think we can do it even better. I know we can do it even better and I hope we can get a result in Norway.”
