Liverpool FC sale of Sadio Mane can take Manchester United a step closer to Frenkie de Jong deal

Manchester United have been pursuing a deal for Frenkie de Jong for the past few weeks after it emerged he is Erik ten Hag's prefered target in midfield. However, with Barcelona looking to secure a big fee for the player, talks have seemingly hit a stumbling block.

It was originally thought that De Jong would be reluctant to move to Old Trafford as he would prefer Champions League football next season. He has also stated in the past that Barcelona is his dream club, but it now seems that if the Spanish club want to sell him then he would be open to a reunion with Ten Hag.

It will take time to complete the deal, but United fans are getting impatient with every other top-six side other than Chelsea having competed at least one deal this transfer window. However, the latest big deal to go through may have set the wheels in motion.
