The Last Of Us Part 2: Game passes 10 million copies sold
The Last Of Us Part 2 has now sold more than 10 million copies, per Gamespot.
The sequel to the classic PS3 game was released in 2020 to a remarkably strong critical reception.
The Naughty Dog hit received a 93 score on Metacritic from 121 critic reviews, making it the second-best PS4 game of 2020 as per the aggregation website.
The game had a somewhat mixed critical reception, though, receiving a user score of 5.7 from 158,640 ratings, although it should be noted that The Last Of Us Part 2 was review-bombed around the time of release.
However, it has remained a strong seller, and Naughty Dog have now announced that the game has crossed 10 million copies sold, passing that benchmark earlier this year.
Neil Druckmann, Naughty Dog’s co-president, spoke about the milestone at Geoff Keighley’s Summer Game Fest, and he subsequently suggested that the success of the release has freed the developers up to explore more projects.
He said: “And that kind of support, that kind of success, we’re so grateful to our fans. It has allowed us to grow as a studio and now we can take on multiple projects, more than we’ve ever had at the same time.”
Naughty Dog made a number of announcements at the Summer Game Fest.
They have confirmed that The Last Of Us Part 1 remake is coming to PS5 in September, while the multiplayer mode that spun off from TLOU 2 has now become a standalone multiplayer title that could release in the next 12 months.
In addition to that, Druckmann confirmed that The Last Of Us television show is close to finishing shooting, with the show set to release on HBO. Pedro Pascal is starring as Joel in the show, with Bella Ramsey cast as Ellie.
